Donation Wigs for Chemo Patients Bring Optimism, Gratitude
A few weeks ago, I received a note from one of our wholesale customers, Jeri Millard, and wanted share part of it with our readers. We all enjoy our work but sometimes don't realize the effect it has on others, and this was an excellent reminder for me.
Jeri Millard runs a shop in Jacksonville, FL called In the Pink that provides support for cancer patients, including specialty wigs for chemo patients when treatment side effects take their hair. Jeri recently supplied a wig to 12-year-old Kessia, who lives in Costa Rica and is currently battling cancer. Kessia had beautiful, waist long hair, and after her first chemo session, lost it all. Predictably, she felt "different" and did not want to go out in public without hair.
With the help of Jeri and others, Kessia now owns a wig, scarf and wig stand. After receiving her wig, Kessia was thrilled and feeling optimistic about her second treatment.
Jim, who owns a coffee plantation in Costa Rica and recently received a visit from Kessia and her family, writes to Jeri:
The little girl is very optimistic and goes for her second chemo treatment soon, the second of ten. The doctors keep Kessia in the hospital for five days with each chemo treatment. You can see the smile and optimism in the little girls face. It is hard to guess what is going through her mother's mind. Her face though has an unmistakable message. ..She will endure the hell of seeing her flesh and blood go through the rigors and cruel side effects of chemo.
I know miracles happen, but it is my guess that she will join Angel Baba (a friend of his who died of cancer) in heaven in the near future. I sincerely hope that I am wrong.
This experience was a moving one for me. It served to reinforce the importance of putting things in perspective. Most things in life that aggravate us or cause us momentary discomfort are really nothing and insignificant, when you compare them to what Baba went through, and what Kessia is going through.
WigSuperstore.com is proud to have contributed in some way to this child’s recovery and optimism as she completes her treatment. Thank you for sharing this with me Jeri it is inspirational.
We are passionate about helping people find the right wig or hair piece, no matter what the purpose or reason, and enjoy hearing how our efforts have helped change and improve the lives of our customers (or others). Lets talk about the Grammy Hair!
At this years Grammy telecast CBS had it's largest viewership in 6 years! So that was pretty cool. We all got to see a lot of stars. You know they had spent months picking out there clothes and deciding how to wear their hair. Just like the rest of us when we have a big event. What I was excited about was that so many of the stars wore their hair down, elegant and simple. They let their natural beauty come through. Of course there were the guys and girls who went a little wild (it was the Grammys) but a lot of them went kind of old school- which if done right is always beautiful.
First of all Taylor Swift. Her hair was wonderful. It had been crimped all the way down and she wore it swept to the side. It had that short 1940's look to it. She looked awesome. She is just so cute. I saw video of her of other times during the night and she had it down, still crimped, but down and it looked even better.
OK lets bash on someone for a minute. What is the deal with the long hair, pulled back into a pony tail tight on the sides but on the top it is backcombed up and then back? It is awful. I have seen this on Kim Kardashian and it's too bad because I think she is really pretty but the style is so awful that she can't even pull it off. Hilary Scott of the group Lady Antebellum (who by the way won Best Country Performance by Duo or Group w/vocals) wore this style that night. Her hair totally detracted from her cute self. I saw an album cover of theirs and she had her hair down on it and she looked hot.
Miley Cyrus wore her hair down. It is so long! She looks like she might have hair extensions in and they look AWESOME. I saw her in concert and thought the same thing. Her hair was long and straight at the top with soft waves as it went down. She looked great. If my daughter finds out about the hair extensions she will want some. That would actually be a trend started by a celebrity that would be OK!
Rihanna was stunning as usual. Her hair was very short on the sides and longer on the top. It's not very long on the top and was wavy, straight and pushed up at the same time. Rihanna always takes chances and always looks looks like a supermodel.
Beyonce looked gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. She wore a very soft colored dress that showed off her rockin body and her hair was long, parted on the side, and straight. It was beautiful. The color was great and it was super shiny. It was so pretty. Grammy night was definitely her night! She won big and looked terrific doing it.
The whole night was good I think. There were wigs, hair extensions, updo's, long curly hair, long straight hair, short spiked hair- all different styles and accessories used to make the stars look fantastic. How much fun must that be to be able to try whatever you want. It's like grown up Dress UP! Maybe we should all add a little grown up Dress Up to our lives! Might be fun!
